What does a copywriter do?

A copywriter writes words to engage the reader's attention and encourage them to buy the product, sign up or hire the services offered. This can be obvious or more subtle depending on client's wishes.

How does a copywriter know what to say?

The copywriter will gather information, research, and compile a comprehensive artillery of knowledge on the subject through:

What is the difference between a copywriter and a copyeditor?

Copywriters write. Copyeditors proofread documents searching for errors. The jobs use very different skills. If you want to strive for the best performance from your written material you should make sure the copywriter you hire has both abilities. The creative skills of the writer combined with the ability to pay meticulous attention to the detail of the words and sentences is ideal. Proofreaders closely examine written work to eliminate bad spelling and punctuation, whilst ensuring consistency of layout and language style throughout. Copywriters create brand new, original material.

What is the difference between a copywriter and a technical writer?

Copywriters create marketing/advertising material and a broad array of general information. Technical writers write technical documentation like help files, manuals, and other "how to" documents. Technical writers work with programmers and others to translate technical information into generally understood information.
